Norwich Selectboard Vision and Guiding Principles

A very concerning attribute of today’s legislative bodies, at every level, is the toxic, mean-spirited manner in which public servants who see issues differently treat each other.

The Norwich Selectboard to which I was elected in March 2017 is tackling this issue by recently adopting the Norwich Selectboard Vision and Guiding Principles which are soon-to-be posted on the Town website and are pasted below.

We developed this vision and set of guiding principles as a team with the help of facilitator Lauren Girard Adams.

We expect these principles to keep the conduct of your local Selectboard centered and steady whether facing smooth or choppy waters.

We hope you will take a minute or two to read and consider this work.

You can count on us to live up to these standards and we ask you to remind us if you see this or any future Selectboard body straying from them.

Finally, we invite you to attend and participate in Selectboard meetings, mostly held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month. Youll see more than just local politics as usual. You'll see people with widely varying points of view working together effectively, with trust and mutual respect.

Your 2017 Selectboard Members,

Linda, Steve, John L., Mary, John P.
